Christmas In August

"Christmas in August" is a program of children's mission groups in our Baptist churches all over the United States in partnership with the national Women's Missionary Union. Each year several missionaries are chosen by the WMU to receive needed items collected by these children for the people groups the missionaries minister to. This year, the community of Peach Springs was chosen as one of those areas through Missionary Tommy Thomas of River Valley Mission Network.
In September we took over 60 boxes of school supplies out to Peach Springs Elementary School. The children were wide-eyed as we tranported all the boxes inside the school. And the teachers were so thankful and amazed that so many would reach out to help them. Thank you to each of you who were a part of "Christmas in August"
If you would still like to send something to help the Hualapai Tribe children, donations will be accepted any time!
Please see the attached list of requested items. . . We know this list is very extensive and we also know the needs are great. We are told that many of the Hualapai children are naturally gifted with creativity and artistic ability. Some of them have pieces of their work on exhibit at the Heard Museum in Phoenix. We find that people sometimes think our Native American communities have an unlimited supply of government funds. This is certainly not the case with the Peach Springs Elementary School and the government doesn't share Jesus with the Peach Springs community. Also attached is a letter from teacher, Jocelyn Barnhart, describing the culture and pressing needs of Hualapai children and youth.
The 1st Southern Baptist Church of Kingman will be the local sponsor and location for the sending of items. These can be mailed or delivered to the church at 3120 Haualapai Mountain Rd, Kingman, AZ 86401. You can also call the River Valley Mission Network at 928-753-9262 if you have questions or need more information. This is a great project for your children's ministry or your entire church!
